About

Welcome to mytimeout.ca

This is your place to pause, reflect, and reconnect. With yourself. With others. With the way your mind works.

Founded by Corey Ferguson, mytimeout.ca launches with the Wired Differently series, a collection of grounded and powerful guides created to help neurodivergent individuals better understand themselves. These books are also for those who live, work, and grow alongside them.

Rooted in personal experience and psychological insight, the series speaks to what it means to be misunderstood, to mask, to struggle, and to finally be seen.

Over time, this site will become more than a bookshop. It will grow into a resource hub filled with practical tools, thoughtful writing, and real conversations for people who think differently, lead differently, and live outside the box.

Taking a timeout is not about stepping away. It is about coming back to yourself.

About the Author - Corey Ferguson

Corey Ferguson has spent a lifetime navigating the realities of being wired differently. As a child, he was often described as rambunctious and constantly in trouble. Eventually, psychological testing revealed a different story, one that shifted how others saw him and how he began to understand himself. He was placed in a gifted program but later chose to leave the academic fast track to stay grounded in his local school community, where he could continue playing sports, building friendships, and learning in his own way. That decision reflected a theme that would carry through the rest of his life. He often took the less obvious path and chose experience over convention.

Corey grew up in a blended family. His biological father left before he could form any memories, and for a time, that absence created questions that had no clear answers. When his mother remarried, her new husband stepped into that space not just as a provider, but as a steady, caring presence. Over time, that man became “Dad” in every way that matters. Corey’s early years were shaped by the complexities of loss, loyalty, and identity, and he learned to navigate them with humour, curiosity, and resilience. Those experiences gave him a deep appreciation for chosen family and for the power of people who show up and stay.

Driven by that same curiosity, Corey pursued a wide range of roles across different industries throughout his teenage years. He found success in each of them, often stepping into leadership positions and becoming the go-to problem solver. On nearly every sports team he joined, he served as captain. It was a reflection not just of skill, but of his ability to lead, connect, and bring people together. His passion for sports and leadership sparked an early goal of becoming a physical education teacher, and he went on to study Kinesiology at both Lakehead University and York University before pivoting to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.

Following his studies, Corey took on one of his most meaningful early roles, working in a youth group home, where he saw firsthand the impact of structure, support, and genuine human connection. He later joined large corporate companies, where he quickly built a reputation as a loyal and hardworking employee committed to continuous improvement. He often joked that his goal was to eliminate his own position by streamlining systems, refining processes, and helping teams work more efficiently and sustainably.

For the past fifteen years, Corey has run his own company, Timeout Studios Inc., while working as an independent consultant for small and mid-sized businesses. His curiosity and creativity have allowed him to connect with clients in meaningful ways, driven by a genuine desire to understand others and help them succeed. He is self-taught in several disciplines, including advanced Excel, graphic design, and basic computer programming, and he turned his woodworking hobby into a business called Strange Wood Products.

Corey credits much of his personal growth to the people who have shaped his life. Friends who stood by him. Coaches who expected more from him. Teachers who saw his strengths before he did. Managers and mentors who trusted him with leadership. And above all, his family. He has been happily married for over twenty years, and he and his wife have raised three daughters together. Each of them has challenged, inspired, and shaped him in unique ways. Their love, honesty, and presence have grounded him through every chapter and have helped him grow not only as a father and husband, but as a person.

Writing the Wired Differently series is both personal and purposeful. With the help of modern tools that support reflection and structure, Corey brings his ideas to life in a way that honours lived experience and centres authenticity. His goal is to remind readers that their struggles are real, that being different is not the problem, and that real growth happens when we are seen for who we are.
